Her husband Captain Fraser was speared to death. Mrs Fraser a genteel lady became a slave to an Aboriginal tribe and was eventually rescued by an Irish convict. One son was on his way to Ipswich (320 mile away), and a boy, thought killed, hid under a bed while his remaining family were murdered. The locals and police killed at least 150 in revenge, and perhaps as many as 300. They were not prosecuted, and this massacre set the tone for all dealings with aborigines for the next 40 years.
